Not to be the single, cranky wet-blanket, but I feel like someone should deflate some of the hype. The applicator is awful, flat-out. The little pump-thing has to be pushed about twenty times to dispense enough sunscreen to cover maybe half your arm, and even then it's difficult to tell if you have any of the stuff on you because it's see-through (when you go out in the sun, though, it's just barely shimmery. Maybe a deal-breaker for some, but I think it's pretty). This makes the product's claim of "WHOA! 300+ applications!" a little dubious, because, really, if one pump counts as an application you're getting a lot less than 300 uses, even if you only use it to cover a very small area like your face. Eventually I ended up cracking the whole thing open and putting the powder in a little container so I could dip a brush in and apply it myself.
That said, the actual SUNCREEN works really well, gives my skin a nice shimmer, and doesn't make me look like an oil slick. It's really a lovely product, it's just the design that sucks.

Soleo Organics all natural SUNSCREEN, SPF 30 Review

Soleo Organics all natural SUNSCREEN, SPF 30

We just bought and used this product due to its high ratings on Skin Deep (an agency that uses a rating system to inform the public of the toxicity of a products ingredients) but after using it for a few days on our trip to Florida, we tossed it in the trash.
We have four kids, ranging in age from 1-12, and we are vigilant about sun protection (our kids all wear rash-guards as well as sun screens while swimming) and re-applications of lotions but we had several bad burns on our little ones. Last year, we used California Baby products and though it was bit tough to rub in, our kids never burned.
This stuff was greasy too, but I would have tolerated that if it had worked!
Mid-vacation I switched my family from Soleo to a back-up tube of California Baby from last year, and it STILL worked better, even being over a year old!
I'd use this product with hesitancy. If you're going out for a bit of sun here and there, it's probably fine. But if it's your main protection against the sun--think twice. There are better products on the market with low toxicity ratings.

TruKid Sunny Days SPF 30+ Natural Sunscreen: 2.0 oz Tube (does NOT contain Vit. A) Review

I spent an inordinate amount of time researching sunscreens this summer, and finally decided to try TruKid, based on the EWG guide and reviews. It's such an improvement over similar types of "safe" sunscreens. It goes on much smoother, it's not sticky or tacky, and the white haze disappears easily once it's rubbed in or once a little time has passed. (My 3-year-old does NOT sit still for me to rub it in, so usually I just slather it on her and wait for the whiteness to fade-- which it does, pretty quickly.)
Each of the other "safe" sunscreens I tried or read about had some kind of downside-- usually regarding the whiteness, the consistency, the difficulty rubbing it in, that it stained clothes, or the scent. I can't find a downside to this one except the price, which is on the high side for the amount of sunscreen you get.
It's true that this is a very small tube-- about the size of a wide toothpaste tube-- and you're instructed to use a "handful" of it each time you apply, so don't expect it to last the whole summer. It's a handy size to keep in a pocketbook, though. When I reorder, I'll order the two-pack.
Because the order was filled by the company, it also arrived with samples of their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. A nice touch!

Alba Botanica Sun Mineral Sunscreen, Aloe Vanilla, SPF 30 , 4-Ounces (Pack of 3) Review

After reading studies last summer that indicated that many standard, chemical based sunscreens actually accelerate cancerous tumor growth, I started a search for a mineral based sunscreen that would be effective and somewhat affordable. After much research, I settled on the mineral sunscreens from Alba botanicals.
My kids spent last summer with my wife in the Colorado Mountains where the sun can be incredibly harsh and they used this sunscreen every day. We noticed that:
-This stuff is thick and hard to rub in.
-It is greasy
-Nobody got sunburned, even with prolonged sun exposure but we sure did get TAN!
All in all, this isn't as easy to use as traditional sunblock or spray-on, but if it works better to the extent that studies suggest I am a very happy customer.
